Where in the world is ...

some guy named Matt?

Everywhere!

Check out the Google map that dots all the places this guy goes. He's done this several years in a row now.

Baseball Tennis

Let's combine two great sports. This is either great athletics or some great special effects. I'll believe the first until proven otherwise.

And then there's this amazing baseball moment:

The Eagles Are Coming!

I saw the strangest thing while on a walk with Julie and Evie yesterday. I couldn't take a picture of it because it would not have turned out. So here is the best description I can come up with right now. Eagles. Multiple. Flying above my house. Or as Crush, the turtle from "Finding Nemo," says, "First you were like, 'Woah!' And then we were like, 'WOAH!' And then you were like, 'Woah....' "

We started walking and Evie pointed to the sky and said, "Birds."

I responded, "Yes, Evie, those are birds. We see them every time we... Wow, look at the wingspan on that seagull... ... Wait... that's not a seagull. Great Caesar's Ghost! That's a bald eagle!" And as we watched, we noticed that the eagle was being chased by crows and seagulls. Lots of them. Our eyes looked for the edge of the cloud of birds. In doing so, we saw another bald eagle.

"I've never seen two at once," Julie said. But there weren't just two. Count with me. One, two, three, four! Four large birds hovering and soaring in the wind above our block of Grand Ave. Two were for sure bald eagles, the other two didn't have distinct white-feathered heads, so I don't know if they were hawks or eagles or men in costumes.

All of these large birds of prey were being squawked at by the crows and seagulls. They kept dive-bombing from above and behind the eagles. But the large birds just hovered or turned slightly or flapped a little to stay in place.

I'm curious what they were doing here. They were facing West - into the wind - toward the Navy base/water. Perhaps there was a massive amount of mice that came out to celebrate the Summer Solstice and the eagles were waiting until they got hammered enough to swoop down for an easy dinner. They - being intelligent birds - would know that they had plenty of daylight to watch this rodent celebration. It was all a matter of waiting for the right time to crash the party.

The other birds - scavengers that they are - did not like the fact that the varsity birds were trying to take the prime meat. They, too, only had to wait for the right time to jump into the mouse party. Only, they weren't hunters. They had to wait longer for the mice to get into an accident while driving home drunk.

I've officially taken this from "cool sighting" to "stupid story." Sorry. If I see the eagles again, I'll try to get my camera and capture it.

Father's Day

I just finished celebrating my second Father's Day. It's weird to think that next year I'll have two little goobers running and/or crawling and/or sitting around the house. Evie's been such a blessing and a joy in our home. I'm excited to see the dynamic when Cameron enters stage-left this August.

I could go off about the responsibility of fatherhood and how scared out of my wits I get at the thought of trying to be a good dad. But instead I want to put a video link to one of the funniest movies ever. I got this movie for Father's Day. So now I'm going to force all my friends and family to come over and watch it.

Tree Thievery

I knew it was illegal to steal trees. But this article used a term I hadn't noticed before -- "first-degree theft." First-degree theft? Is there such thing as "second-degree theft"? How about "third-degree"? At what point are you allowed to say, "Oops, I accidentally stuck that in my pocket as I walked out the door"?

Port Orchard is nice. I can't believe someone would want to steal trees from there.
